For competitive sprinters, the energy return from spikes such as the Nike Air Zoom Maxfly and adidas Adizero Prime SP is noticeable. Newer and younger athletes are usually better served by a flexible spike like the adidas Sprintstar or Nike Rival Sprint while they build strength in the feet and calves.
