Shot Put Shoes

Shot put is one of those events which looks incredibly easy when watching it on TV. But Shot put is tough to master due to being dynamic and explosive in a short space of time.

By having the best shot put shoes, they will give you the grip & manoeuvrability across the circle to provide you with a solid base to push the shotput as far as possible.

Shot put is an exciting throwing event as there are two different styles to throwing: the more traditional glide, or the ever-increasing in popularity rotation technique.

Rotation technique is very similar to what you would see in the discus, And because of that, you may require slightly different shot put shoes to what someone who specialises in the glide technique would choose.

But let’s take a look at what’s available for both sets of throwers.

Adidas Adizero Shotput Shoe

Here we have a new shot put shoes from Adidas for the 2020 season. I would say these are the best throwing shoes you can buy at the moment.

Adidas has made many changes with the build of these shoes, and I’ll go over them here.

The upper is made from a synthetic material with breathable holes punched across the forefront of the shoe. You get a nice snug fit, with the Velcro strap, locking your feet into the shoe, Limiting any foot movement in the shoe during the throw.

The sole of the shot shoe is made from a synthetic rubber material which will allow smooth movement during the rotation technique.

If you’re a glide thrower the feeling from the shoes are responsive, giving you lots of grip in most conditions.

The width of the shoe is a nice size, and It will accommodate most athletes feet comfortably. I have quite narrow feet myself but with the lace-up and Velcro strap combination. I could easily adjust How tight the shoes are.

Nike Zoom Rival SD 2

As we all know, Nike has been in the track and field game for a long time. So they have many years of creating and refining their products for each event.

Most throwers will be completing is other events other than just the shot put, so the most cost-effective and sensible thing to do is get a pair of shoes which will be more than capable in all the different throws.

Nike has managed to do just this, making a pair of throwing shoes which are at home, everywhere you’ll need to use them. Rotational or glide, the Nike Zoom Rival SD 2 is an excellent choice.

Like all the shoes listed here, you get a velcro strap across the top of the shoe. This keeps your feet locked in from moving around within the shoe.

With the various supportive materials added around the shoe. For example, the rubber tip around the front, it prevents any unwanted wear from the stop board at the front of the circle.

They are comfortable to wear for long periods, so if you do have the unfortunate circumstances of different throwing events clashing. The Nike Zoom Rival SD 2 will be fine to wear going from one event to the other.

Puma is best known for making spikes for the fastest man in the world, so it may take some people by surprise that they also make Shot Put Shoes.

But Puma has been making shoes for shot put for several years, and with the Puma Evospeed Throw 6, we see the latest edition.

I think the underside of the shoe is one of the best on the market for shot put. It gives you a planted feel with the shot put circle, thanks to a large amount of contact surface area with the floor.

The Evospeed Throw 6 is incredibly well built, making for a very durable shoe. Your shot put shoe will take some punishment over its lifetime, as you’ll regularly kick the stop board in an attempt to stay in the circle. Puma has thought about this by adding extra material to the toe cap.

There is still excellent flexibility in the shoe, allowing you to perform the required movements for all the different throwing events, without them feeling like they are forcing your feet into a specific position.

In summary, they are a great shoe, and you couldn’t go wrong with them.

The way the Adidas adizero shot put shoe it designed, You can comfortably use them for both the glide and rotation technique. The sole of the shoe is made of a rubber synthetic material, which is smooth, allowing you to rotate and spin comfortably. But still provides enough and cut grip when it’s needed.

It’s designed flat enough for you to use it with the glide technique as I’ve had shoes in the past which is very curved at the edges of the sole, which Does hinder balance. That’s one thing you do not need to worry with this pair of shoes.

The strap on top of the shoe locks your foot down, Stopping Any unwanted lateral movement you may experience during throwing.

They are incredibly comfortable shoes allowing you to wear them for large sections of the day without feeling uncomfortable.

Do you need spikes for shot put?

I have seen people use running trainers to throw the shot put. But the downside to this is having too much grip. It doesn’t allow you to rotate and move which the throw requires. Therefore, to get the most out of your technique, you will need shot put shoes.
