Brooks is best known for road shoes, but the Wire is a seriously good distance spike. In our long distance spikes guide we called the Wire 8 a tremendous all-round spike thanks to its lightweight design, flexible forefoot and five pins for grip at speed.

Rather than a rigid carbon plate, the Wire uses a Pebax plate that gives flexibility and a comfortable, responsive feel. The upper is an exceptionally fine woven fabric that’s strong and gives outstanding lockdown. The earlier Wire 7 featured in our 1500m spikes guide with Brooks’s DNA Flash midsole.

Who it’s for: distance runners who want a light, flexible spike for 1500m to 10,000m.
