If you’ve found yourself on this page, there is a good chance you were looking for the best long jump spikes in 2023.

The long jump is one of the most visually spectacular events within track and field.

Watching it live is always more impressive as it’s hard to get a good sense of how far are the athletes for jumping while watching it on Tv.

Here are the best long jump shoes you can buy in 2022

Nike Air Zoom Long Jump Elite

It’s impossible not to talk about the new line of Nike track & field spikes without first mentioning the latest technology which Nike has developed. Placing an air bubble under the spike plate gives an unprecedented amount of spring while you’re running and taking off. It allows you to turn horizontal speed into vertical takeoff much easier than before.

They hold your feet in an excellent position for sprinting and taking off, with the cross strap running over the top of the foot, securing your foot from any lateral movement you may experience during the jump.

Overall I think the Nike Air Zoom LJ Elite spikes are the best on the market, and if they fit within your price range, you should get these.

Adidas JumpStar Long Jump Spikes

The Adidas long jump spikes haven’t changed much in their design for the last few years.

Since then, a few changes like the addition of the mesh fabric on the midfoot and heal means you get a very breathable material offering excellent ventilation.

The spike plate (sole of the shoe) is the same but now has a mesh design on the bottom. Which I think looks good as it has a continuous look from top to bottom.

The colour scheme of these Adidas Long Jump Spikes is attractive. The sock mesh looks the same design as the other Adidas track spikes.

Like most recent Long Jump spikes, they come with a smooth section at the spike plate’s top. Adidas has added this feature to make as little impact on the plasticine as possible if the athlete is very close to a no jump.

Adidas tends to make very built up jumping shoes. By this, the amount of support around the foot the spikes offer is some of the very best.

The downside of having built-up supportive jumping spikes is the feeling while sprinting on the runway.

I was always a big fan of having long jump spikes, which were developed more like sprinting spikes. It gave me the feeling of hitting the speeds on the runway.

Because the Adidas long jump spikes are more built up and supportive, I didn’t find them as comfortable to run compared to the Nike Long jump shoe.

Nike Long Jump Spikes

The only noticeable difference you can see from year to year is the colour. So keep that in mind when buying these spikes.

The Nike Long Jump spikes come with a synthetic upper, lightweight mesh material, and support around the foot.

This year’s colour scheme is black and grey, which I think look great.

I love the Nike Long Jump Spikes from a performance aspect.

They suited my long jumpstyle, and my current Long Jump personal best was set wearing these very spikes.

I liked how the shoe felt more like a pair of sprinting spikes, just with slightly more support around the heel.

You also have the strap over the front of the shoe, limiting any lateral movement during taking off. From an out and outperformance point of view, it won’t add much if anything to your distance. But it can help with removing unwanted movements, which could cause injury.

Asics Long Jump Spikes

As I’ve mentioned in other blog posts regarding the design of the Asics spikes. You will be getting spikes that will undoubtedly turn heads when you turn up to the track, and the Asics Long jump spikes are no different here.

The Black & Orange colour scheme is one of my favourites on any product.

The synthetic upper minimises any movement from the feet within the shoe. The spike plate is made from two-density Pebax nylon and is strengthened around the spikes to improve the force you get back from the track at the point of compression.

The Asics Long Jump Pro is produced to give optimal grip on the run-up and enable the athlete to generate maximum lift on take off.

The overall Weight of the spikes is 7.2 oz.

Saucony Long Jump Spikes

Saucony has been making some significant spikes for track & field for a while now, and many people may have never heard of them.

But they are attacking the cheaper end of the market for track and field spikes.

The colours are unquestionably out there, and I can understand why they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

With an eight-pin spike plate for traction on take off, you can rest assured you are unlikely to slip on take off in horrible wet conditions.

Over the forefront of the spike, there is a strap for locking your foot into position.

What Is Long Jump?

Long jump Is the distance between the takeoff board and the closest mark you leave in the sandpit.

The takeoff board is 20 centimetres long. A section of the board, a thin strip of plasticine, helps the judge or official determine whether you had a foul jump.

Long Jump Spikes vs Sprint Spikes

The long jump and sprint spikes are very similar in design & construction.

They are so similar that I’ve noticed athletes using long jump spikes to sprint in and vice versa.

In fact, if you look at the winner of the Rio Olympics, Jeff Henderson. He was jumping in sprint spikes.

I wouldn’t advise this, as the force going through your feet and legs at taking off are immense. The Sprint spikes available these days aren’t built for that.

On the other hand, I’ve seen athletes run the 100m and 200m in long jump spikes as they carry an injury.

Because the long jump spikes have a slight heelpiece and stronger midsole, they can protect against foot and Achilles injuries, which could be aggravated if running in sprint spikes.

Can You Use Long Jump Spikes For Pole Vault?

Yes, you can. If you closely look at the spikes listing information, they can be used for pole vault.

The takeoff position and direction are similar between events, so you use your long-jump spikes for both events.

What’s the long jump world record?

Mike Powell set the men’s long jump world record of 8.95 m (29 ft 4 1⁄4 in) in 1991

Conclusion

So you’ve made it to the end of this blog post, helping you find the best long jump spikes.

I’ve chosen the spikes in the article because they all have different strengths and weaknesses, and at least one will suit all the different types of jumpers.

For me, the best is the Nike Long Jump Spikes. They are the most comfortable to wear on the run-up and during the takeoff.

It’s important to consider what type of jumper you are. As I was more of a speed-based jumper, the Nike long jump spikes suited me better.

But if you’re a slower, power-based jumper generating more height at takeoff, then Adidas Long jump spikes will be the better option for you.
